Calycanthus floridus – Sweetshrub or Carolina Allspice – 3-Gallon

$39.00

Sweetshrub has showy, maroonish-red flowers with an incredible fragrance that is hard to characterize, but definitely fruity and stronger in the afternoon. Fragrance does vary some among plants, so if you are growing Sweetshrub for that trait it’s best to pick out a plant in the afternoon when you can assesss each plant’s fragrance. While it tolerates quite a bit of shade, Sweetshrub will creep around looking for sunshine in heavy shade; it will plump-up and flesh out given at least a few hours of sun each day, and be quite dense and floriferous with lots of sun and a little afternoon shade. Although the peak of bloom is late spring, flowers appear sporadically until fall.
