Fragaria ‘AC Wendy’ – June-bearing Strawberry – 1-Quart

A new, early-ripening variety developed at the Kentville Research Station in Nova Scotia. The berry is larger than ‘Earliglow’ (the other early-ripening variety we carry), wedge-shaped to conic, with firm, bright red colored flesh and excellent fresh flavor. Plants are vigorous and runner well. ‘Wendy’ is moderately resistant to powdery mildew and red stele, but susceptible to verticillium wilt. Since plants flower early they may be sensitive to late spring frosts. In trials, ‘Wendy’ was highly productive, of good quality, and it held its fruit size throughout its ripening season in contrast with ‘Earliglow’ whose berries get smaller over the course of their ripening season.
