Fragaria ‘Ruby Ann’ – Day-neutral Strawberry – 1-Quart

This sibling of ‘Tristan’ combines showy flowers and delicious fruit and was bred specifically for hanging basket, raised bed and pot production, where the compact plant will spill neatly over the edges. Try placing a container on a patio tabletop to create a beautiful centerpiece. ‘Ruby Ann’ is an Everbearing Strawberry forming flower buds as long as day length is 12 hours or more per day and producing two or three crops of fruit each season. It’s an alpine type strawberry, with conical shaped fruit that are not as large as the berries produced by conventional strawberries. ‘Ruby Ann’ produces beautiful ruby-red flowers, the reddest of the varieties in the Hanging Basket series.

  • Strawberries require 6-10 hours a day of direct sunlight.
  • They will do best in a sandy loam soil and adding some aged manure and/or compost before planting is recommended.  Mulch with chopped straw, leaves or shredded wood.
  • The soil pH should be between 5.5 and 7.
  • Strawberries need well-drained conditions so raised beds or containers are a good option.
