Fragaria ‘Sparkle’ – June-bearing Strawberry

$5.00$12.00

‘Sparkle’ has been known for flavorful, high-quality fruit for over 60 years. If you are looking for a great-tasting strawberry, and the best berry for jam & freezing this is the one. Very cold-hardy and late-blooming so ‘Sparkle’ performs well in the Catskills with our cold winters and frequent early spring frosts. An extremely vigorous variety, do not allow the bed to become too thick and you’ll be rewarded with a nice crop of tasty, medium-sized berries.

Description

  • Strawberries require 6-10 hours a day of direct sunlight.
  • They will do best in a sandy loam soil  and adding some aged manure and/or compost before planting is recommended.  Mulch with chopped straw, leaves or shredded wood.
  • The soil pH should be between 5.5 and 7.
  • Strawberries need well-drained conditions so raised beds or containers are a good option.
