Iris cristata – Crested Iris

A beautiful groundcover for the woodland garden. The 2-3 inch flowers are usually violet, but also come in white  (‘Alba’ and ‘Tennessee White’) and light blue (‘Powder Blue Giant’). The common name refers to the elaborate, light-colored crest or keel on each fall. Give it some room to spread out and prevent it from being overgrown by more aggressive woodland plants. Companions:Spring Beauty, Twinleaf, Bloodroot, Merrybells, Trillium and Hepatica.
