Liatris ligulistylis – Meadow Blazing Star – 1-Quart

The ultimate Monarch Butterfly magnet – if you plant it they will come! Monarchs love Blazing Stars in general, but they really, really love this species. They will choose it over other blazing stars blooming at the same time. Crimson-red buds burst open to reveal brilliant purple/pink flowers. Seed-eating birds such as Goldfinches go for Blazing Star seeds so don’t cut the flower stalks until spring. A moist meadow species from the upper midwest, Minnesota in particular, and Rocky Mountains, but tolerant of dryish soils.
