Magnolia family, Magnoliaceae
One of our tallest and fastest growing trees, especially in forest situations where this member of the Magnolia family forms a straight tall trunk with a broad pyramidal crown of branches. One disadvantage of this form is that the showy flowers occur so high in the tree they are rarely observed. Trees grown in the open have lower branches that grow up then arch back toward earth and many will carry flowers. So give the tree some open space if you want to enjoy its floral display. Fall color is a clear luminous yellow.
