Magnolia virginiana var. australis ’Ned’s Northern Belle’ – 7-Gallon

The most cold hardy cultivar of the evergreen, southern form of Sweetbay. The parent tree in Ohio is now 30 feet tall, and has lost its leaves in winter only a couple times during its lifetime, when the temperatures went to 35 below zero! The sweet, lemon fragrance of the creamy white, 3-5″ flowers is among the best of the Magnolias. The flowers are followed by interesting red fruits. Grows in wetlands in the wild but does well in average garden soil.
