Mentha x villosa – Mojito Mint


Mojito Mint is from Cuba and has a much milder flavor than spearmint along with hints of citrus. Beyond the famous Cuban Mojito drink, the large leaves are used in fruit salads, desserts and potpourri. Best when used fresh but the leaves can be dried for winter use. Full sun, average soil- and give it room to spread or you will have to control it with frequent pulling.

Cuban Mojito Mint Summer Drink Recipe:

  • 10-12 fresh Mojito Mint leaves
  • 1/2 fresh lime juice (squeezed)
  • 2 tbsp powdered sugar
  • crushed ice
  • 1 1/2 oz. white rum
  • 1/2 cup club soda

In a sturdy measuring cup with a lip for pouring- place the leaves, lime juice and powdered sugar. Mash ingredients with the back of a long spoon or pestle. Add ice and rum, stir. Pour into a tall glass and add the club soda, garnish with mint sprigs, lime slices and serve.
