Description

A University of Minnesota hybrid introduced in 1944 – it’s exact ancestry is unknown but its parents include Fox Grape (Vitis labrusca) and Riverbank Grape (V. riparia). It looks a lot like the well-known ‘Concord’ but is much hardier (to zone 4), earlier to ripen and is sweeter and juicier – according to Great River Vineyard, the largest grower of table grapes in Minnesota, it’s the “grapiest grape grown.” It’s so disease resistant, it requires little or no spraying. Cluster size is medium to large when vines mature and berries are large with a beautiful bluish color. Ripens early to mid-season and makes excellent juice and jelly as well.
